Seven priorities for a ward that walks, bikes and takes transit more than anywhere else in Toronto, and pays close attention to how its money gets spent.
Walkable Neighbourhoods
- Pedestrianization on key commercial streets, including Kensington, Ossington, and Yorkville.
- Mechanical bollards for seasonal or daily pedestrian hours across the city.
- Sidewalks for walking by getting e-bikes off them, with real enforcement.
- Unblocked sidewalks by increasing daily fees for construction closures.
City Operations That Make Sense
- End closed-tender bidding so construction work is open to all unionized firms.
- Re-evaluate $226 million in sole-source contracts, and raise the bid-free threshold from $3,000 to $10,000.
- City control of street furniture by taking garbage cans, benches, and shelters back from third parties.
- Update IT infrastructure and raise the general technological knowledge of city council.
Faster Transit, Smoother Traffic
- Far-side stops to complement signal prioritization for streetcars.
- Faster TTC speeds by allowing speed restrictions only where they are justified against international standards.
- Active transit priority for streetcars on intersection approach.
Safe Public Spaces
- Police and crisis help at all major transit nodes, as there was during the FIFA World Cup.
- Real-time monitoring and next-stop response to violence and drug use on the TTC.
- Better lighting on park paths, for safer walks home.
Supporting the Unhoused
- Expand day-shelters for weather relief and hygiene amenities, easing the care burden on libraries, recreation centres, and healthcare workers.
- Push for increased funding for shelter and assistance from the federal and provincial governments.
Building Better Biking
- Expedite Bike Share expansion with a five-year plan for more docking valets and faster bike replacement.
- Improve station reliability by holding service providers accountable.
- Safer bike lanes replacing flexi-posts with real protective barriers and updating municipal design guidance.
- Expand the protected network to complete east–west and north–south pathing.
Stabilize Property Tax, Broaden Revenues
- Expand the vacancy tax to retail and vacant commercial space, so storefronts get used.
- A hard-surface tax on major businesses to help fund flooding mitigation.
- An entry levy so non-Torontonian drivers pay their share of road maintenance.
